Fan Films February 28, 2013

I’ve been trying to write this blog for the better part of an hour about fan films and pontificating on how they are good, can be bad and what we can learn about them, blah, blah. And then I thought to myself, “Nobody cares. Just show them the damn videos.”

You know what? I’m right. So let me just present them to you.

Up first, is a Star Wars fan film giving us a first person light saber fight with Darth Vader.

The first half, I was under whelmed. In terms of light saber fights done by fans, I had seen much better. But then came the twist and the POV switches. Now, I’m in.

Both story wise and technically speaking, that POV switch is awesome.

This has nothing to do with anything but I really wanted to use it.

Next up, Jesse V. Johnson’s proof-of-concept Wonder Woman film.

Obviously, this serves as a sizzle reel to showcase Jesse’s directorial abilities, and he’s got them in spades, but this adds to a longstanding argument I’ve had regarding DC Comic movies. The solution to the problems Warner Brothers is having with its Justice League movie is to make it a fun period piece set in the 1940’s a la The Rocketeer.

But, that subject is for another blog. So, keep creating fans. We’re watching and so is the industry.
